Sportbike Aficionados Rejoice: The Return of the Honda CBR600RR

Sportbike enthusiasts have a special place in their hearts for the 600cc class of supersports. These middleweight sportbikes, including the CBR600RR, ZX-6R, and YZF-R6, have earned their spots in the two-wheeled hall of fame for their versatility. Whether on the track, street, or even for light touring, these aggressive pocket rockets never fail to impress.

However, the 600cc class has been on the decline. That is, until EICMA 2023, when Honda unveiled the new and improved CBR600RR. After a six-year hiatus, the CBR600RR is making a comeback to Europe, much to the delight of sporty enthusiasts. So, what does this refreshed supersport bring to the table? Let's dive in.

Race-Bred Performance and MotoGP-Inspired Technology

The CBR600RR stays true to its roots by delivering a race-bred performance package. It comes with several upgrades, with the most notable being the MotoGP-inspired technology. The bike is equipped with a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), providing lean-sensitive ABS and traction control. It also features wheelie and rear wheel lift control features. A throttle-by-wire system offers five riding modes and nine levels of HSTC (traction control). To stabilize the front end during heavy acceleration, an electronic steering damper is included. Additionally, a slipper clutch and quickshifter combo ensure smooth gear changes.

Power and Suspension

Under the hood, the 2024 CBR600RR is powered by an upgraded version of the beloved 599cc inline-four engine. It delivers 89 kW (119 horsepower) at a high 14,250 rpm and 63 Nm (47 pound-feet) of torque at 11,500 rpm. Suspension duties are handled by compact race-spec Showa Big Piston inverted forks paired with a Unit Pro-Link Showa rear shock. Notably, the new CBR600RR also features winglets derived from MotoGP race bikes.

Availability and Pricing

As of now, Honda Motor Europe has not announced the pricing for the 2024 CBR600RR. It is also unclear whether the new sportbike will be available in the US market. However, if launched as a global model, the CBR600RR will contribute to the limited selection of bikes in the 600cc supersport segment. Therefore, it is our hope that the CBR600RR will be sold worldwide.
